1.  New Shure Micro-Bodypack Is Smaller Than Small.

UR1M Offers Superior Wireless Performance In An Ultra-Compact Package.

Late this spring Shure debuted the new UR1M Micro-Bodypack.  It may be small, but it is making a big impact in the industry.  Offering superior wireless audio in an ultra-compact package -- about half the size of most standard bodypacks and weighing just three ounces with two AAA batteries -- the UR1M is designed to be easily concealed and worn comfortably by actors, performers, musicians, and public speakers.

Operating with the premium Shure UHF-R wireless microphone system platform using the latest version of the Shure Wireless Workbench software, the subminiature device uses the patented Shure Audio Reference Companding technology to deliver crystal-clear audio and a 60-75 MHz tuning range (region dependent)-twice that of any other bodypack on the market.

Tunable in 25 kHz increments and providing a sum total of up to 3,000 selectable frequencies, the UR1M also offers:

  • selectable 10mW or 50mW RF power
  • up to nine hours of battery life
  • audio level metering
  • a backlit LCD display
During the manufacture of each UR1M, the circuit board is specially treated to greatly enhance the sweat resistance and durability of the device, allowing it to be worn close to the skin.  As easy to use and setup as any other UHF-R Series product, the miniature bodypack complements its list of functional features with a choice of TQG or Lemo-3 connectors and selectable alkaline, lithium primary, or NIMH battery curves for accurate power metering.

The UR1M was the only bodypack used during the broadcast of the 2008 Academy Awards, worn by host Jon Stewart with a Shure WL51 cardioid subminiature lavaliere microphone.  It also was used at the 2008 Miss America Pageant and is currently on tour with Maroon 5.  The UR1M has a suggested retail price of $3,198 (UR1M/LEMO3 is $3,298) and is now available.

We're still wondering how Shure managed to cram all of that into such a small space!

2.  Epson Unveils Ultra-Bright, Ultra-Portable Projectors for Corporate Boardrooms and Road Warriors.

New Epson PowerLite 1700 Series Projectors Deliver Easy USB Connectivity, Increased Resolution, and Industry's First "Plug-and-Play" Wireless Connection

Epson recently announced the Epson PowerLite 1720, 1725, 1730W, and 1735W projectors.  These models deliver 3,000 lumens of color and white lights output for bright, vivid images, are sleekly designed, and weigh just less than four pounds.  Presenters, whether in a conference room or on-the-go, can take advantage of Epson's new Quick Wireless Connection USB Key for virtual plug-and-play wireless connectivity and streaming video with audio via USB connectivity.  The Epson PowerLite 1720 and 1725 offer XGA resolution and Epson PowerLite 1730W and 1735W projectors offer WXGA resolution (16:10 aspect ratio), ideal for use with widescreen laptops and DVD content.

With these new projectors, Epson had made big advancements in projection ease-of-use with USB technology.  The Epson PowerLite 1725 and 1735W projectors feature a unique USB connection for "plug-and-play" projection.  Presenters are now able to display video with accompanying audio, as well as control PowerPoint presentations using the "page up" and "page down" buttons on the remote, with one easy connection via standard USB cable, instead of carrying around a bulky VGA cable.  The PowerLite 1725 and 1735W also offer the industry's first Quick Wireless Connection USB Key, removing all the complexity from wireless connectivity.  By simply inserting the USB Key into the projector (first time setup only) and then into the notebook, the USB Key automatically reconfigures the notebook's network settings and wirelessly connects to the projector for instantaneous use.  When the presentation is complete, you can remove the USB Key from your notebook and the original network settings will be restored.

We know your busy, so you will love the Instant On and Instant Off.  This feature enables presenters to be up and running in only six seconds between pressing the "Power" button and the appearance of the start-up screen to avoid delays at the beginning of a presentation; powers down in four seconds enabling presenters to unplug and pack up immediately and safely without a cool-down period.

The Epson PowerLite 1700 series are available this month.  And don't forget, Epson's PowerLite projectors include a two-year limited warranty, Epson's comprehensive Road Service projector replacement program (projector exchange in one business day), and Epson's exclusive PrivateLine phone support for toll-free access to technical support.

3.  Award Winning Biamp Conferencing Products.

When Biamp launched the Nexia line, it was hailed as one of the coolest products of the year.  Their exclusive NexLink digital audio bus lets you network units and features as needed without excess investment upfront.

4.  Vision2 from AMX - "So... What's Your Application?"

Vision2 is sophisticated, fully integrated videos capture, management and broadcast system for organizations and homeowners wanting a comprehensive, yet simple-to-use, IP video delivery solution.

The robust Vision2 includes a robust video communications infrastructure built around a single, fully integrated product that delivers live scheduled, and/or On Demand videos.  It's flexible in that it is compatible with most popular video formats (MPEG 2, 4, WMV and Flash).  It's convenient.  You can manage video distribution via an easy-to-use web-based interface, and it's proven.  It was designed by broadcast engineers for the broadcast market, adopted for the mainstream market 18 years ago, and has seven generations of experience.  One Fortune 500 customer has over 3000 end points.  Another government customer has successfully integrated their solution into an information analysis tool.

So... What is your application?

Educational TV? - Archive lectures and videos so that students can view them via their PC whenever and wherever they want.  Provide live and On Demand TV to students and staff in classrooms, dorm rooms, computer labs and offices.  You can even create and produce one or more on-campus broadcast network channels.

Business or Government TV? - Provide live TV and pre-recorded video - such as corporate videos, presentations, training and surveillance videos - directly to your employees' PCs or displays installed throughout your building or campus - from lobbies, cafeterias and break rooms to call centers, trading floors and network operations/command and control centers.

Medical TV? - Record and archive operations or events for training or information purposes.  Also provide live and On Demand bedside TV for patients or waiting rooms as well as educational programming.

Modular components allow you to create the perfect solution.  With the help of your United Visual representative you can mix and match combinations of the five components below to create the perfect solution.

  • V2Live - Captures, encodes, multicasts, unicasts, or streams live content in MPEG2 or Windows Media Video (WMV) format.  V2Live can manage multiple hardware encoders, video capture cards and TV receivers.  It also provides software encoding management for WMV requirements and the ability to re-broadcast or timeshift channels for delayed viewing.
  • V2Record - Enables you to record live video streams.  Once recorded, the video is stored in V2Archive for future viewing.
  • V2Archive - Allows you to store and manage videos in Flash, WMV, MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats for future use.  The stored content can then be used to build your own V2Producer channel and/or allow users to access it with V2On-Demand.  V2Archive has an integrated search feature that allows you to find contents based on titles and metadata.
  • V2Producer - Enables pre-recorded videos to be scheduled for timed playback via multicast or unicast on the Internet or intranet.  Its fully-functional program scheduler dynamically links and updates electronic program guides, which allow users to see which programs are playing at what time.  V2Producer can populate its schedules from the content stored in the V2Archive to create your own network TV channels.
  • V2On-Demand - Provides users with the ability to watch video content stored in the V2Archive whenever they want.  They access the V2Archive via easy-to-use browsing and search facilities.

5.  Wireless Connectivity Makes Set-Up Quick and Easy - Introducing the Mitsubishi XD530U

Mitsubishi has introduced its newest wireless projector, the XD530U.  This XGA resolution projector is perfect for on-the-go presenters such as salespeople and teachers.  For rooms with high ambient light, the XD530U blasts 3000 lumens of brightness.  A center-lens design provides easy symmetrical set-up, and its instant shutdown feature makes this new projector easy to use in all types of environments.  XD530U users can project wirelessly in four simple steps by downloading installation software from Mitsubishi's website and following easy instructions.  Like all projectors in Mitsubishi's 500 series, the XD530U boasts Texas Instruments' new DDP 2230 DMD chip with DLP technology and the latest version of BrilliantColor.

This combination, along with Mitsubishi's implementation of its dynamic lamp power design, augments and improves overall color performance while keeping the total cost of ownership low.  Last time we checked, that's a good thing!  Additionally, Mitsubishi is offering a generous one-year or 500 hours limited warranty on the lamp, whichever comes first.  Ok, now that's two good things!  The XD530U is a filter-free projector with a center lens design and convenient top- loading lamp, making installation and lamp replacement simple and easy.  The new XD530U also boasts DVI support; users can project native digital signals in full high-definition resolution. Each projector in the new 500 family provides separate audio inputs for computer and video, dual computer inputs and a monitor loop through to maximize set up and installation options, as well as RS-232 for remote projector management.  A splash screen, password protection and reinforced anti-theft security bar help create peace of mind for security-conscious users.  So, it just keeps getting better.  For more info on this new wireless situation, contact your United Visual representative.

If you do not need the wireless feature check out the Mitsubishi XD520U.

6.  Germaphobe? No Worries. Califone Has Introduced Earpad Covers

The increased use of personal audio technology within classroom learning centers and language labs in schools has led to a greater reliance on the frequent and repeated use of headphones by multiple students. To help educators and students address hygienic concerns, Califone International, Inc., recently introduced a line of headphone Earpad covers to fit its best selling headphones and headsets.

"These protective earpad covers are ideal accessories for headphones located in high-use school settings", said Kevin Cavanaugh one of United Visual's Educational Account Managers. The earpad covers fully enclose the ear cushions of the headphone, helping to keep the headphone clean. The black cloth covers also help deflect perspiration in hot, humid conditions and will not affect the overall sound quality. Since the students are no longer in direct contact with the vinyl ear cushions, many will find using the earpad covers to be more comfortable, and are more likely to stay on task.

There are three available sizes: the smallest model, 2800-EC, is designed for use with the company's award-winning Listening First headphones; the 3060EC works on the 3060 series headphones and 3064 series headsets; the 2924EC is for headphones with over-the-ear earcups, which offer the maximum ambient noise-reducing ability such as the 2924 series, 3068AV, SA-740, the wireless series of CLS headphones, the just launched Sound Alert headphone, and also on the 3066AV and 3066-USB headsets. Each package contains twenty-four covers (for 12 pairs of headphones).
